About the event

ORIENTATION - A course for Feldenkrais Method Teachers & Trainees

with Zoran Kovich MSc, Certified Feldenkrais Trainer

"Orienting yourself is the most important thing you have to learn. Any act that is done without paying attention to orientation is a faulty act. Any action without orientation means nothing."

                                                                                                             Moshe Feldenkrais, Amherst Training

"Body awareness enables us to know we orient ourselves."

Moshe Feldenkrais, The Case of Nora

Unreflective familiarity with an abstract concept, such as 'orientation', tends to veil the myriad intricacies it signifies. This hinders the kind of constructive, action-focused thinking we seek to hone and apply in our practice of the method. Whether it be a word or deed, Moshe beckoned us to critically examine what we know. And he unwaveringly championed comprehending ideas and concepts from the perspective of 'doing'.

Decades of embodied cognition research indicates that even the most abstract concepts emerge from bodily know-how and experience. Skilfully directing our attention to actions and perceptions associated with orienting enables us to

revitalise our understanding of orientation. Doing so fosters resourcefulness in our practice of the method, both personal and professional.

The course is open to Feldenkrais Method teachers and students currently enrolled in an accredited Feldenkrais training program.

Pre-course readings will be provided

• Moshe Feldenkrais: Bodily Expressions, as well as other extracts.

• A selection of extracts from other sources related to the topic.
