About the event
This workshop explores a holistic approach to balance. You will learn to address both outer balance (physical) and inner balance (how to calm and relax your nervous system), via gentle awareness through movement sequences based on the Feldenkrais Method.
Balance is a learned skill that we can change and improve at any age, due to neuroplasticity, the brains ability to change and adapt itself in response to learning and experience, in this case to novel and new movement patterns.
We rely on 3 major receptor systems for balance; vestibular (our inner ear - 10%), ocular (our eyes - 20%) and proprioception or kinesthesia, (our ability to sense and feel the location and movement of our body in space - 70%). This workshop will particularly help you improve your kinesthetic awareness, which often gets compromised after an injury.
This workshop is for people who are able to get on and off the floor as the majority of movements are in lying. It doesn’t mater if you have balance issues or not, as you can always improve how you move!
