About
Tanya is a Certified Feldenkrais Practitioner and Registered Occupational Therapist (OT). She graduated from Curtin, W. Australia, in Occupational Therapy (OT) in Feb 1991. She was introduced to the Feldenkrais Method, Awareness Through Movement (ATM), during her undergraduate training. Her curiosity was further developed as a new graduate when exploring interventions to help her vocational rehabilitation clients with their back pain and physical injuries. She was awarded a Master of Science (by Research) from Curtin University of Technology in 1996 on “The Functional Benefits of the Feldenkrais Method for Persons with Low Back Pain”. In 1999 she completed the Feldenkrais Method (FM) training in Lewes, England to help adults find greater ease in moving through everyday life and in their chosen activities. Tanya continues to maintain her currency and fuel her thirst for learning by undertaking Continuing Professional Development in both the Feldenkrais Method and OT.
Over the last 30 years, The Feldenkrais Method has informed and been combined with her OT practice working with adults; especially in elderly and stroke rehabilitation in a range of hospital and community settings both in Australia and England; supported her academic teaching; and helped with personal recovery from surgery and sporting injuries. The Method has provoked her curiosity, inspired, and guided her in helping clients increase their body awareness and use their brain plasticity to learn new patterns of action to improve their movement and everyday functioning with increased ease, comfort, and/or efficiency.
In Perth, Western Australia, Tanya, runs Function Through Life, for adults in the community who are seeking:
-to satisfy their curiosity and to learn more about The Feldenkrais Method and themselves
-to age better by improving their movement organisation and/or improve their balance and posture
-to improve their general sense of well-being and comfort including relaxing/calming their nervous system, and reducing muscular tension, mild anxiety, and/or chronic pain.
-to move more easily, learn new ways of moving, or widen movement possibilities, or improve motor control to use in everyday life and activities, (e.g. improve reaching and hand usage, lying, rolling over, sitting, standing, and walking).
-to aid their injury, stroke, or neurological rehabilitation once medically stable after their acute recovery.
