Do you have a pain or movement problem which has persisted for more than 3 months? If so I can help you unwrap and unravel it!

I am a qualified Physio, Feldenkrais Practitioner and Clinical Pilates teacher with over 30 years experience in the area of Chronic Pain. For 7 years I worked in a hospital-based pain management programme. This gave me the confidence to be able to assist people with the most difficult and complex pain issues. I am passionate about helping people not only reduce or eliminate their pain, but also develop a inner sense of calmness, ease and grace in both mind and body.

When you focus your mind on the pain to search for a solution, it actually reinforces the pain in your brain and nervous system. Pain pathways become super-highways and you get stuck in a vicious cycle of tension, worry and ongoing pain.

Feldenkrais is a wonderful, gentle, safe and sometimes truly miraculous method, which helps you move more comfortably and easily again. As you journey into your body, you learn to use your brain in a completely different way. You learn to sense your body more accurately and this feedback allows you to change your movement and posture. This learning process is something you can use for the rest of your life. It has improved my quality of life beyond measure and it can help you too.

When you come to a one-on-one Feldenkrais lesson, I will ask you about the things you want to do without pain, for example walking, sleeping or using a computer. We then work together to find ways to do similar or related movements completely painlessly, in a variety of different positions. Sometimes you may realise that the pain you are experiencing is associated with difficult experiences you've had in the past. The amazing thing is that as you start to better understand how you came to be in pain, the pain begins to unravel.

To follow up your individual sessions I usually recommend classes, as these are an inexpensive way to ensure ongoing improvements. Awareness through Movement classes are so enjoyable and relaxing that many people continue to attend year after year to help maintain optimal health and wellbeing. It's best to attend in person to begin with, but we also have online classes, giving you the flexiblity to attend from your own home as well as access class recordings.

Strengthening exercises can also be helpful, however if you start strengthening without improving your movement patterns, you just strengthen the 'faulty' patterns, which may have been what caused the pain in the first place. Instead, first develop healthy comfortable patterns. Then you can strengthen them safely with close supervision in our very small group classes.

My practice is very busy, so if you find it's hard to get an appointment with me, you are welcome to see my colleague, Alison McIntosh, who has worked with me for the last 10 years. Ali is a talented practitioner, who has 20+ years experience. Her calm, kind presence is incredibly supportive. She is very intuitive and the depth and bredth of her knowledge means that she quickly gets to the heart of your issues.

I welcome your questions and enquiries, so please don't hesitate to get in touch. 😀

Warmly,

Jodie
