Feldenkrais and back pain

Ten years ago I was fortunate enough to be referred to, a physiotherapist and Feldenkrais practitioner.

At the age of 75, I was diagnosed with the rigid form of Parkinsons’ disease. I wasn’t in pain but I was getting very slow and stiff, and shuffling my feet as I walked. On my daughters’ recommendation, I started going to my local practitioner for some Feldenkrais lessons.

The Method has helped to straighten me up, pick up my feet and improve my balance. I wake with dreadful headaches and the lessons help that too. My movements are so much more flexible so my daily routines are easier. I can even put my pants on without hanging on to anything!

Feldenkrais at any age

I first became aware of the Feldenkrais Method from a friend, as I had been complaining of hip pain. I listened, as we all do, to this woman talking about this miracle method that cured her of her complaint that she had endured for some time. “Just go and see for yourself”, she said. I had been told I needed a cortisone injection to cure the pain. Not wanting to put this foreign substance in my body I decided to give the Feldenkrais person a try.

What a gift, I’m so amazed with the changes in my skeletal frame. After the first visit, I felt so emotional, I didn’t believe I would ever stand so tall and straight. The amazing part, it appeared to me, was to take such gentle and little movement, but done with such skill.
